China Standard EGE9 Series Slewing Drive with Good quality

A swing drive is a gearbox that handles radial or axial loads with high rotational torque. In addition, a slewing ring bearing in the center of the drive enables it to withstand high cantilever or moment loads. A descendant of the “worm” lead screw, slewing drives are used in construction machinery, manufacturing, military equipment, and many other applications that require strength and precision.

The physics of slew drives make them a versatile solution for many applications. In operation, the axial motion of the rotary drive or motion about its axis interacts to generate radial torque. This action occurs by meshing the grooves of the horizontal screw with the teeth of the vertical gear. As it rotates, the axial movement of the worm gear transfers the amplified torque to the radial gears. The number of threads on the horizontal screw and the number of gears interacting will determine the speed ratio of the unit.

Our slew drives offer a complete, out-of-the-box solution. No more purchasing and installing multiple components. HZPT’s global presence gives you access to the most popular standard sizes with fast lead times. With the multifunction interface, you get the highest connection flexibility:

(1) hydraulic motor
(2) electric motor
(3) brakes and sensor.

The closed housing guarantees sustainable, low-maintenance operation without loss of lubrication and protection from the environment. Due to their compact design, slewing drives are ideal for use in the construction, agriculture, and forestry industries. Examples include steering systems for loading cranes, aerial work platforms, and special vehicles.

Why is There Noise when the Slew Drive is Running?

A slew drive is a transmission reduction device. Two primary structural forms are common: worm gear worm shaft slew drive, and spur gear slew drive. The main components of these 2 slew drives have slewing bearings, so it is also a supporting and rotating device. The 2 types of slewing drive also have 1 thing in common: the integrated design, which assembles many parts into 1 component, which is more convenient to use and cost-effective.

The worm gear structure of the worm gear worm shaft slew drive determines its slow rotation speed, so it is very suitable for solar tracking, aerial work platforms and vehicles, construction machinery, forestry machinery, and other mechanical equipment that does not require fast rotation.

Many users find that the slew drive will make a slight noise when running and rotating. This is normal. This is the noise made when the worm shaft and the teeth of the slewing ring mesh. However, it should be noted that if the noise is loud, it should be paid attention to. The loud noise indicates that the tooth wear is severe. If it’s not inspected and repaired and running for a long time, it will reduce the rotation accuracy and rotated stability and affect the service life of the slew drive.

Based on long-term testing and design experience, HZPT has summarized some of the causes of noise in slew drives:

1. The inside of the slew drive is not cleaned up and has debris, which causes the slewing movement to make noises when rotating.

2. The bolts between the slew drive and the connecting plane are loose.

3. The plane connecting the equipment and the slew drive is uneven. After the bolts are tightened, the teeth of the slew drive are squeezed and make noises when rotating.

4. The slew drive has withstood the tilting moment beyond its max range.

5. The slew drive’s worm shaft and the slewing bearing’s teeth do not mesh well.

6. The lubricating oil inside the slew drive is gone, and lubricating oil needs to be added.

7. The slew drive rotates too fast.

The noise when the slew drive is running is above 7 points. If your equipment also suffers from such problems, please check and fix them. This way, the slew drive can run smoothly and have a longer service life.

We Are Always Improving

Since we started to design and produce the first slewing drive, optimization design and improvement plan are always in progress. We improve the processing technology of the housing, reduce processing cost, ensure the stability of the housing, and the manufacturing process of the housing is not limited. We improved the sealing solution of the slewing drive to make the sealing of the slewing drive more reliable and the design more reasonable. Sealing guarantees the high reliability of the slewing drive. It can quickly and cheaply for customers to customize non-standard products to meet customers’ different use requirements.

We improved the design of slewing drive, unified and standardized the creation of the input end to provide convenience for designing different solutions, reduce manufacturing costs, reduce the design complexity and minimize errors. Through repeated optimization design and scientific follow-up of the processing process, designers assemble and debug by themselves from a mature and perfect design idea and processing technology. Through continuous efforts, we have accumulated rich experience in design, processing, debugging, and assembly, using 3D design software for modular design, which can quickly design solutions and solve customer problems.

FAQ About Slew Drives

1. What is the prime mover for slew drive?

A: An electric or hydraulic motor is the prime mover for slew drive.

2. Does slew drive requires a brake or not?

A: Depends upon the requirement and application.

3: Where is slew drive used?

A: Slew drive is used for any machine having turning movement. Usually, it is used with slew bearings with internal or external teeth, and the gearbox has a pinion on the output shaft that drives the big gear of the slew bearing.

4. What type of gearbox is used in slew drive?

A: Planetary gearbox is used in slew drive.

5: What kind of braking arrangement is provided for slew drive?

A: Normally, slew drives are electric or hydraulic. The electric type has got shoe type brake or Negative electromagnetic brake on the motor. At the same time, the hydraulic type has got a multidisc hydraulic brake.

6. What type of bearings are used in this slew drive?

A: Spherical or roller bearings are usually used in the slew gearbox output shafts to take care of high radial loading.

7. Which type of pinion is used in the slew drive?
A: Normally, the slew drive has a pinion with a corrected profile to ensure a complete contact pattern with bearing gear.

8. How is backlash adjusted in slew drive?

A: To adjust the backlash between the pinion and slew gear, the gearbox’s mounting is slightly eccentric to adjust the backlash precisely.

9. Slew drive is used for which applications?
A:  Slew drive is used for stacker, ash handling reclaimer, windmill, tower cranes, and excavators.
